Editorial policy
How this site is written.
Dermatographia is a condition people are routinely misinformed about. This page sets out exactly who writes here, what the claims are based on, and where the commercial relationships are — so you can judge the rest of the site on the evidence.
Who writes this site
Every article here is written by one person, diagnosed with dermatographia in 2008 and living with it ever since. I am not a physician and I never present myself as one. What I offer is long-term lived experience with the condition, thousands of conversations with other people who have it, and the patience to read the clinical literature and translate it into plain language.
I am under the ongoing care of a board-certified dermatologist for my own dermatographia. That care informs the questions I ask and the things I test on myself, but it is not a substitute for your own clinician's judgement, and nothing here has been prescribed for you.
How the medical content is researched
Clinical claims are checked against published sources: Mayo Clinic, the American Academy of Dermatology, DermNet, StatPearls via the National Library of Medicine, and the EAACI/GA²LEN international urticaria guideline. Where a page makes a clinical claim, those sources are listed at the foot of the page so you can read them yourself.
Where the evidence is thin or mixed, the page says so. I would rather tell you that something is unproven than imply a certainty the literature does not support. There is no cure for dermatographia, and you will not find one claimed anywhere on this site.
Patient stories and quotes
The patient stories on this site come from real interviews with people living with dermatographia, conducted by me. Quotes are used with permission and reproduced as spoken, edited only for length and to remove identifying details.
Interviewees are identified by first name and age only, to protect their privacy. Nothing on this site is a paid testimonial, and no one is compensated for their story.
How products are chosen
Products are recommended only when I have used them myself for my own symptoms. Nothing is included in exchange for payment, and no brand has editorial input into what appears here or how it is described.
Some product links are Amazon affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy through them at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links are disclosed on the pages where they appear. A commission never determines whether a product is listed or how it is ranked.
Medical review
Pages that carry a “Medically reviewed by” byline have been read by the named, board-certified clinician on the date shown. Pages without that byline have not been clinically reviewed, and I do not imply otherwise. I will never attach a reviewer's name to a page they have not actually read.
Corrections
If you find something on this site that is wrong, out of date, or misleading, tell me and I will fix it. Corrections to substantive medical claims are made directly on the page, and the page's updated date changes to reflect it. You can reach me through any of the community links in the footer.
